Tripletail Classic

Launched in 2020, The Tripletail Classic is a first of its kind fly fishing only tournament held in the Mobile Bay area. We are excited to bring this tournament into its 7th year in 2026.

The tournament format is Catch, Tag, Photo, Release targeting the Atlantic Tripletail species only. Participants use tournament provided dart tagging kits courtesy of USM Gulf Coast Research Lab and the Fishing Chaos app to log and submit all of their catches.

We are proud to be teamed with the USM Gulf Coast Research Lab as the beneficiary of this fundraising tournament. Tournament day is an opportunity for our community to tag and release a significant quantity of fish for research, as well as inject funds into GCRL conservation efforts for this species.

Captain's Meeting

The captain’s meeting must be attended by, at a minimum, one team member in order to receive tagging kits, tagging instructions, and a general briefing on the tournament rules. It will be held at the Ralph and Kacoos in Spanish Fort at 5:30pm on Friday, June 6thth 2024.

You will pickup your team bags that will be loaded with goodies, including the custom printed Skinny Water Culture  tournament shirts!

Tournament Fishing Time

Fishing will start at 7:00am on Saturday June 7th, 2025. Fish captured prior to this time are not eligible. Fishing is then open through 4:00pm; catches must be submitted via the Fishing Chaos app by this time to be eligible. At a minimum, each team captain must then be physically present at the award ceremony location  ( Ralph and Kacoos) on the Causeway in Spanish Fort by 7:00pm.

Awards Ceremony

The awards ceremony will also be held at Ralph and Kacoos on the Causeway at the top of Mobile Bay, and must be attended by, at a minimum, one member of each team. You may arrive by any means of transportation; however, team’s that do not check in at the awards ceremony by the 7:00pm cutoff time will be disqualified. 

In addition to awards; there will be catering, a raffle, and great story telling from the day! So don’t miss out!
